Steve Giles

Steve Giles

Managing Director

Steve Giles is Managing Director and founder of TPI. Having founded Gateway TSP in 2009 he now divides his time between the two companies. He is a Chartered Transport Planner and Incorporated Civil Engineer with 35 years of experience in transport analysis, highway design, road safety engineering/ auditing and traffic management. Following 12 enjoyable years with Surrey County Council he moved into the private sector, where he has practiced ever since. Steve has seen many changes to the industry in his time, from the ‘predict and provide’ road building culture of the 1980s to the ever-evolving demand management policies of today.

Steve has worked with a wide range of clients from both the private and public sectors. Most recently he has led successful projects with Lidl, The Institute of Cancer Research, The Royal Marsden, Croudace Homes, KFC and Maggie's. As well as working on well-known sites such as Grove Business Park, 500 White Hart Lane (Tottenham Hotspur FC), Rokers, Bromley FC, Horsham FC and Walton Sports Hub (Elmbridge Borough Council).

When he finds some spare time, Steve enjoys contemporary music, hill walking, reading, cycling, motorcycling and football (formerly playing and coaching but these days just watching).

Phil de Jongh

Technical Director

Phil de Jongh joined TPI as Technical Director in September 2016. Phil brings a wealth of additional transport planning knowledge to TPI from his 24 years' experience in the industry. For the last 15 years, he has worked with Arup and WSP | Parsons Brinkerhoff, focussing on transport planning projects within London and South East England. Phil specialises in highway planning associated with development and urban regeneration and provides traffic and transportation advice to both private and public sector clients. His skills include masterplanning and the preparation of transport planning input (Transport Assessments / Statements and Travel Plans), as well as post planning support in the delivery of projects. Phil has a civil engineering background and can provide design advice on highway layouts for building service areas, road layouts and car parks. Out of the office, Phil is a keen motorcyclist and has explored Scotland, Italy, Ireland and France over the last few years. He also enjoys cycling, both on road and mountain biking around the local roads and hills.

David McMurtary

David McMurtary

Associate Director

David McMurtary is an Associate Director with TPI. He is project manager and trusted first point of contact for several key clients including Lidl UK, Reside Holdings and Chartwell Land. David has a clear focus on delivering successful transport planning outcomes on a variety of land uses, including residential, retail, employment and care provision. His 10 years in private consultancy has provided experience in a diverse range of assessment techniques, together with increasing responsibility for the supervision of technical staff. In his spare time, David enjoys running, walking and playing badminton. He is also an avid supporter of West Ham United.

Jessica Bagnall

Jessica Bagnall

Operations Manager

Jessica Bagnall joined TPI in August 2016 as our Operations Manager. She manages all the non-technical parts of the business. Before joining TPI, Jess spent two years running the EMEA Operations for Angoss Software Corporation – a global leader in predictive analytics software. Prior to that, she spent eight years at a top Mayfair hedge fund where she was responsible for trading and accounting operations as well as administration.

Andy Hughes

Principal Transport Planner

Andy Hughes joined TPI as a Principal Transport Planner in October 2016. Andy brings with him over 5 years of transport planning experience. Before joining TPI, Andy was a Principal Transport Planner at TTP Consulting, where he was involved in projects with private and public sector clients such as The Royal Free NHS Trust, Sports Direct International Plc and Vinci St. Modwen - working on a wide range of residential and commercial sites. Andy has significant expertise in preparing Transport Assessments / Statements for all land uses, Travel Plans, Delivery and Servicing Management Plans; Construction Traffic Management Plans; Car Park Management Plans and Junction Capacity Assessments using PICADY / ARCADY / JUNCTIONS9 and LINSIG. Andy holds a MA in Environmental Planning and Management and a BA (Hons) in Geography and Business Studies - both from the University of Liverpool. In his spare time Andy runs ultra-marathons and has recently run 100 miles in just over 22 hours!

Mark Fitzgerald

Mark Fitzgerald

Senior Transport Planner

Mark Fitzgerald is a Senior Transport Planner at TPI – having joined Gateway TSP in April 2014. He has been instrumental in many significant projects with clients such as The Royal Marsden Hospital, Institute of Cancer Research, Lidl and Crimson Project Management. He is highly proficient in the use of Junctions and Linsig modelling software, AutoCAD junction design and site servicing/parking strategies, TA/TS/TP/CLP/CMP writing, traffic flow analysis and trip assessments. Mark holds a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia. In his spare time, Mark is an accomplished skier and player of pub sports, a blues and rock music enthusiast and he also plays the odd game of football.

Tim Norman

Tim Norman

Transport Planner

Tim Norman joined Gateway TSP in November 2014 and is a Transport Planner at TPI. He has been extensively involved in numerous projects – most recently feasibility studies for a re-design of York Railway Station, a new 22 storey hotel, office and retail development at Central House, Aldgate as well as a residential development in Greenhithe, Dartford. Additionally, he has worked with significant clients such as Lidl, Horsham FC and Institute of Cancer Research. He has gained much experience in the preparation of Transport Assessments, Statements, Technical Notes and Travel Plans and the application of DMRB and MfS principles to design work. And he is an expert in the use of AutoCAD, AutoTrack, TRICS, GIS and TRACC accessibility analysis. He is proficient in the analysis of various data sources (PIA data, traffic/parking surveys etc) and often attends site inspections. Tim holds a BSc Hons in Geography from the University of Plymouth and is a Member of Chartered Institute of Highways and Transport (MCIHT) and a Member of the Transport Planning Society (MTPS). In his spare time, Tim enjoys 5-a-side football and DIY.
