TPI project featured at the TRICS User Meeting

TPI attended the annual TRICS User Meeting last week at the Royal Society in London. An interesting event which highlights the progress and planned updates to the transport planning industry's trip generation database.

One speech given by Wayne Sayers of The TRICS Consortium focused on a set of surveys commissioned and consulted on by TPI on behalf of Lidl UK. A selection of six stores were surveyed to the methodology required by TRICS ready to be validated and added to the TRICS database for the land use ‘discount food stores’. Wayne explained that this was one of the first instances that a multiple batch of TRICS compliant surveys have been undertaken and managed by an external consultant [TPI]. Ian Coles, Operations Manager of the TRICS consortium, said that the data was of good quality and after agreeing the methodology and validating the data it has been successfully added to the TRICS database.

Areas of further research and/or surveying for TRICS over the next 12 months include:

  • Trip rates for Car Clubs
  • Trip rates associated with Amazon collection points
  • Investigation between different sizes and tenure of residential dwellings and the impact on the resultant trip rates

In summary an interesting event, with the added bonus of the inclusion of one of our own projects being discussed and praised, well done to all involved.

Appeal won against refusal to grant planning permission

On 6 March 2017, the Planning Inspectorate announced its decision to allow our client's (Langford Walker Ltd) appeal and grant planning permission for their site at Jackson road Nursery, Bromley. This site will now see the demolition of existing commercial buildings and erection of 9 detached houses and associated landscaping. TPI produced Highways Rebuttal Statements and attended the Appeal. As a result, the Inspectorate concluded that the new residential development would likely reduce the number of trips and the type of vehicles would be generally smaller than the current commercial usage.
