Lidl Bexleyheath

Case Study

The Project

The site was subject to a previous application to utilise and extend the existing car showroom building to form a foodstore, which was granted planning consent in 2014. The new scheme comprises the demolition of the existing building and construction of a larger, first floor foodstore with car parking provided at ground level.

Our Role

TPI, under our previous Gateway TSP banner, was instructed prior to the planning application submission to prepare the Transport Assessment and Travel Plan reports accompanying this proposal. In addition, the initial designs for the Broadway environment were created, involving relocation of a bus stop and reshaping the length of Broadway. The Transport Assessment also involved Linsig modelling of the signalised junctions at each end of Broadway. Following the application submission, GTSP addressed all comments raised by the Highway Officers at LB Bexley to ensure the scheme was recommended for approval.

Following the grant of planning consent, TPI undertook the detailed highway design work and led the s278 negotiations. Following technical approval, TPI liaised with the site contractors to ensure all access works were completed to enable the store to open on schedule.

The Scheme

The scheme comprised the demolition of an existing car showroom and construction of a 1,511 square metre sales floor area foodstore with 140 car parking spaces, of which two are served by a rapid EV charging point. A bus stop along the site frontage was relocated west along Broadway, resulting in a fundamental redesign of Broadway, involving the removal of a central island feature.
